Step by Step

Here's exactly what happens when you walk through our door.

Most patients arrive nervous. Most leave relieved. Here's what to expect from the moment you book to the moment you're done — so there's nothing unfamiliar when you get here.

Booking your appointment

Call any of our four locations. Our team will ask a few questions about your situation and your referral, then find the earliest available appointment. If you're in acute pain, tell us — we keep capacity for same-day emergency cases.

We'll ask for your insurance information at this point so we can verify your benefits before you arrive. You won't need to figure out coverage on the day of treatment.

What to bring

Keep it simple. You'll need your insurance card, a photo ID, and any relevant X-rays your referring dentist may have taken. We may take our own diagnostic imaging at the appointment if needed.

Photo ID
Insurance card
Referral slip (if applicable)
X-rays from your dentist
List of current medications
Medical history if relevant

Arrival and check-in

Arrive 10–15 minutes early to complete a brief health history form at the front desk. Our team will confirm your insurance coverage and your estimated co-pay at this point — before treatment begins, not after.

If you have anxiety about dental procedures, please mention it. We work with anxious patients regularly and will take time to explain what's happening before we begin.

Examination and diagnosis

Your doctor will review your X-rays and examine the tooth. In some cases, we'll take CBCT (3D) imaging for a more complete picture — particularly for complex cases or retreatment. Your doctor will explain what they're seeing and why they're recommending a specific treatment.

Nothing happens without your understanding and consent. If you have questions, ask them now — that's what this part of the visit is for.

Treatment — usually same-day

In most cases, we treat the tooth at the same visit. We'll administer local anesthesia, give it time to work, and then proceed when you're numb and comfortable. With GentleWave, 92% of cases are completed in a single visit of 60–90 minutes.

You'll be awake and aware throughout. Some patients bring earbuds and listen to music or a podcast. That's completely fine.

After treatment

Most patients drive themselves home and return to normal activity the same day. You may experience mild soreness in the area for a day or two — ibuprofen is usually sufficient. We'll give you specific post-treatment instructions before you leave.

A detailed procedure report goes back to your referring dentist the same day. Your general dentist will follow up with you about the final restoration — typically a crown placed within a few weeks.

A Note on Anxiety

Most of our patients arrive nervous. That's expected.

Dental anxiety is real, and endodontic procedures carry a particular reputation — one that's mostly undeserved in 2026. We know you've probably read things online that didn't help.

Our doctors have been doing this a long time. They will not rush you, dismiss you, or proceed without your understanding. The tooth that's hurting you is the problem. We're the solution to it.

"You're worried it's going to hurt. That's the right place to start — because once we address that, everything else is just a procedure."

— Dr. Priya O'Callaghan, Founder · 28 years in practice

96.6% of patients report mild to no pain after GentleWave treatment (Sonendo clinical data). We don't say painless — but we do say that number means something.
